Oars

Barkley Sound Laminated spoon blade oars are standard issue with a Hilmark Boat. Available in lengths from 6 feet to 8 feet in 6 inch increments. The shaft diameter is 1 3/4 inches, blade length is 24 inches and maximum blade with is 5 1/2 inches. The oars are finished with urethane varnish and have an epoxy tip reinforced with glass strand. Spoon blade oars are the best choice for rowing small boats described as whitehalls, wherrys and skiffs, designed primarily as rowing boats. The curve of the blade and thinner edges make the blade more efficient but also more delicate than the straight blade oars. Use #1 size oarlocks.

Laminated driftboat oars Available in 8 feet, 8 feet 6 inches and 8 feet 11 inches. The shaft is laminated of 5 pieces of carefully selected sitka spruce, 4 additional pieces form the blade and a strip of ash is epoxy glued into the tip. The shaft diameter is 2 inches, blade length is 32 inches and maximum width is 5 inches. The oars are finished with urethane varnish. Driftboat oars are a straight blade oar designed for heavy use and are also suitable for commercial fishing and industrial skiffs. Use #2 size oarlocks.

Leather oar collar kits Available for 1 3/4 inch diameter oars and 2 inch diameter oars. The leather is Drum-dyed, full grain, lightly hot stuffed with an extra tallow top dressing, tanned using a vegetable process that is very durable, thickness is 1/8 inch. The collar is pre punched and waxed lacing twine is supplied, The strap is skived at either end to form a round, smooth stop (button) at the handle end of the collar. Copper canoe nails are provided to help hold the stop in place. Instructions and lacing diagram are included.
